Partners For A Clean Environment

Stormwater pollution is a national environmental issue. Stormwater runoff occurs when rain or snowmelt flows over parking lots or streets. Stormwater can pick up trash, oil, dirt, and other pollutants as it travels. These pollutants are then carried to the storm drainage system, which drains directly to our local creeks and streams.

The Keep it Clean Partnership (KICP) is a partnership of Colorado communities in the Boulder and St. Vrain watersheds, and includes Boulder County; the cities of Boulder, Lafayette, Longmont, and Louisville; and the towns of Erie and Superior.

The KICP program contracts with the Partners for a Clean Environment (PACE) Program to educate local businesses about their potential impacts to stormwater.  

Many businesses can have have an impact on stormwater, including: auto repair shops, restaurants, and retail manufacturers.  PACE conducts educational site visis with these businesses to ensure compliance and knowledge about local regulations. 

A new program, PACE Allies, recognizes businesses (pressure washers, carpet and furniture cleaners, hood cleaners, landscape maintenance companies) who demonstrate their work practices protect our watershed.  A list of these businesses is available on our website.

PACE also has programs to educate and work with local car washes, gas sations, property managers, and homeowner's associations about proper Best Management Practices (BMP's) for stormwater protection.

Lastly, PACE has implemented a certification and inspection program for the KICP partners' municipal operations.
