Food Waste Awareness Week
Did you know that the average American tosses nearly 300 lbs of food each year? We’re partnering with Boulder County, Boulder Food Rescue, PACE, Community Food Share, City of Boulder, and Longmont Food Rescue to change that! Boulder County residents and businesses are doing a great job of getting their food scraps into the compost bin rather than the landfill, but there’s a lot more we could all be doing to reduce food waste before it gets to the point of composting.
Join us this coming April 16th-22nd for Boulder County’s first annual Food Waste Awareness Week. Throughout the week, Boulder County and its partners will be hosting a series of events to bring awareness to this issue in our community, across the country and around the world. Community members can join us for the following events:

● A screening of Just Eat It, an investigation of food waste from the farm to the fridge.
● Tour of Boulder Food Rescue
● Volunteering at Community Food Share
We will also be sharing food waste information, waste reduction tips, food reuse recipes from area chefs and other important food waste messages on social media and through an email newsletter.

So, what are we asking from you? Spread the news! As one of our partners, we know that you, too, are an important contributor to our community food system and have a vital role in helping to reduce food waste. Here’s what you can do to help:

● Hang a poster on your community board or store window. We have posters available for download.
● Sign up to receive updates at bouldercounty.org/food-waste and encourage other to sign up as well.
● Follow Boulder County Resource Conservation Division on Facebook or Twitter and share our upcoming events on social media and your website or newsletter.
● Host a community conversation about food waste.
